A photo of your celebration

Wondering as to the next walk; there is at this time of the year so many opportunities to get together, to spend time with friends and family therefor I will wait until Wednesday January the 6th 2011
for the next walk.
However I would greatly appreciate if you were to send me one photo or a very short video of a special moment you spent with your loved ones during the holidays.
Please send it via email at mariechristine@mindspring.com
Wishing you a fantastic holiday and a beautiful transition to the new year.

Let's take a walk #15

Let's take a walk #15 took place took place in the village.
In following the concept of bringing people together through a shared experience I invited five peoples, three in the east village and two in the west village, to walked toward each others.
We met at the corner on 9th Street between 5th Ave and University.
In addition there was people, including you, who might taken the walk.
if you did please send me the footage via YouSentit

The 5 people who walked (or attempted to walk) toward each others. Thank you for your participation and support.

LTAW #15

I am thankful...
For your participation and support. Saturday 11/27 at 11 am EST I will start sending you messages via Twitter guiding you
to follow my walk from anywhere in the world, please film or photograph your journey. I will later assemble all the various footage
to create a visual journal of our combined walks.

For the first time, in all those years living in New York City I went to the Macy Thanksgiving Parade. 72nd street was way too crowded so I zoomed down to 59 street an found a wonderful spot to enjoy the experience.
I wish I had conducted LTAW #15 at that moment, how great it would have been to include thankfulness in such a visible way into LTAW. However no matter where the walk will take place I want to thank you for all your continuous support.
I hope that you can participate in LTAW #15.

LTAW #14 at the Rally to Restore Sanity

What a fun experience, as one of my travel companion said "it was all very sane" including the driving to Washington and back to New York on the same day.
The insane element was that there was no internet connections whatsoever, we could not even use our cell phones. I was there and ready to conduct LTAW #14 and could not connect with you.
My deepest apologies to those of you who where waiting in vain.
In my quest for connection I entered the National Gallery of Art hoping for an internet access but no luck... In the process missing one of my favorite singer Cat Steven/ Yusuf Islam, his first word was Peace before he started to sing The Peace Train.

Remember, Let's vote on Tuesday,
Let's not have leave it to -> -> ->

Let's take a walk goes to Washington

But enough with school and children... Let's take a walk will take place Saturday the 30th as part of the Rally to Restore Sanity For those of you who are too far to go to Washington (or sensible enough not to go) you can be part of the walk from anywhere in the world by following my directions on Twitter at 1pm EST 10/30 remember to bring your camera/video.
You'll film your journey, I'll film mine. The combined footage will featured in LTAW video #14.
Now the big question is why are we going to Washington? Is it going to raise awareness? Can it be an incentive to get out and vote next week? a sideway step toward peace? Let's see and find out...

Survey's result

Thank you for your feedback and replies to the survey, please see Saturday October 16th entry.
Most of you blamed my inability to conduct a walk this month on the children starting a new school;
some thought the change of season was a strong factor.
Someone wondered if I was incarnating a Queen in the performance / video of LTAW #9, I think it was more a personification of a Disoriented Pilgrim... As for the reason why i did
not do a walk, it very much due to the sheer exhaustion of sending my children to new schools. Tonight I was asked by one of my children if it was hard to be a parent... No comment.

Next Walk Saturday October 30 at 1pm EST

Nothing like a walk on the beach to give me back the energy and focus
I needed for the Let's take a walk #14 It will happen Saturday Oct 30th 1pm EST
Hopefully you will join me.
You can participate from anywhere in the world.
Follow my directions on twitter http://twitter.com/mcayer
Film your journey, I'll film mine. The combined footage will be the base of
the Let's take a walk #14 video.

Saturday, October 16, 2010

Not happening yet...

Blame it on:

The change of seasons
The children entering new schools
Procrastination
Exhaustion
Lack of direction/ destination
Inability to solidify LTAW true purpose yet
All of the above
Don't care

Please select one and write it on your comment line

LTAW # 13 in Lower Manhattan

Let's take a walk #13 took place in Lower Manhattan.
After studying a google map I selected 4 Places of worship
that were in the proximity of Ground Zero. A Church, a Chapel
a Synagogue and the river. The walk started at 51 Park Place
the site of proposed Mosque.
Following the map drawn on my arm... (How could have I film the journey, send tweets, walk past the swarm of tourists and avoid
the potholes)

The walk took 40 minutes ... the most beautiful moment for
me was to arrive to the river, Breath Aaaaahhhh...

Did you join me?

Peace starts small and spreads out…

Let's take a walk #13

Let’s take a walk #13 will be a little different for two reasons.
First, unlike the previous walks I am letting you know in advance where I’ll be walking.
Second for a while now I have incorporated an element of Peace
Did you invite a friend, a lover, an enemy, a stranger?
The Peace March, Imagine/Strawberry Field
. (see walk #2 and 4)
Due to the events regarding the building of a Mosque near Ground Zero the Walk will take place near and around various places of worship in the area near the site of the Mosque.
I will also ask the 3 most important people in my life to join me in conducting the walk.
Peace starts small and spreads out…
Of course I hope that you also will join me in that walk, either in person or from anywhere in the world.
Walking together apart.

The walk will start at 51 Park Place Sunday September 19th at 11 am (EST)
Please note that this walk might last a little longer than the usual 20 minutes

Let’s Take a Walk

Interactive Performance/Installation

Let’s Take a Walk uses the phenomenon of Twitter so that people all over the world can join in a “group walk.”
On scheduled times, participants (located in various locations throughout the world) would receive “tweet” messages, providing a series
of walking/viewing directions to follow my path through a specific site. Requesting that they film their journey, the various footage are then
assembled into a video installation showing the experience of our group walking in different places but moving synchronized through the same footprints... recreating the blueprint of the landmark/institution I am walking on in that particular day.
So far, the project has included journeys I’ve guided in Strawberry Field, through the crowded streets of the New York City Marathon, Union Sq market during the holidays’ season and on Martin Luther King weekend I followed the route of the 1967 Peace March from Central Park to the United Nation and to mark the opening of the exhibition of Marina Abramović The artist is present Let's take a walk #6 took place around and in MOMA.

Exploring ideas of isolation and community, (calling to mind both
guided tour groups and flaneur wanderings), I’m also interested in conducting the walks as performances within the museum and other art/cultural public spaces to create a new context.

I hope that you will join me for the next walk.

I am receiving wonderful images and videos from everyone who participated in LTAW on Governors Island.
Looking forward to edit this walk's video.
The performance took some unexpected turns, and as in life, sometimes we wish we had sized the opportunities given to us at that moment and made stronger choices, however the experience has clarified some of the elements of the work. I am looking forward for the opportunity of doing Let's take a walk as a performance again.
With gratitude marie christine
