Let's Take a Walk #65 took place as part of EnTransito

Dear Friends,

Let's Take a Walk #65, a worldwide participatory walking performance, was part of EnTransito 2025 in San Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza. I invited people, in person and worldwide, to participate in a multi-phases performance. We shared thoughts and stories, co-create a knitted artifact, and took Let's Take a Walk #65—all under the theme In Spirit We Are Elsewhere.

Let's Take a Walk #65 Unfolding in 4 Phases:

Phase 1 Post exhibition, the knitted element was created with passerby over three days. We exchanged thoughts on the idea of In Spirit We Are Elsewhere and #walkingtogetherapart. 

Phase 2  During Let's Take a Walk #65, the knitted element fashioned into an overskirt I wore, unraveled, leaving traces of our collective journey, participants joined in person, and virtually, via Instagram Live @letstakeawalk_world,  #walkingtogetherapart. 

Phase 3  Performance artifact exhibited as part of my installation in the group exhibition. Visitors wrote their thoughts in a notebook while pondering, In Spirit We Are Elsewhere & #walkingtogetherapart.

Phase 4  Shlepping/Displaying, post-exhibition, hanging the performance artifact throughout San Antoni de Portmany's various neighborhoods.

Phase 2

The journey continued as we walked together, both in person and online

During the walk (phase 2) the knitted element unraveled, leaving traces of our collective journey, virtual and in person, #walkingtogetherapart. I was your guide, the trickster formerly known as Tweetmaster was Vaira Janz, the drummer was Ole Krüger, the town crier and translator was Suwon Lee.

Phase 3

 

 Let’s Take a Walk #65 performance artifact was exhibited in the EnTransitio group exhibition. 

Visitors reflected on the theme and added their thoughts, deepening the dialogue about  In Spirit We Are Elsewhere as well as #walkingtogetherapart.

Let's Take a Walk #65 concluded as Shlepping & Displaying, sharing and displaying the sculpture, performance artifact, post exhibition, as I walked in various neighborhoods throughout San Antoni de Portmany.

Let's Take a Walk #65 at EnTransito 2025, May 1st in person or via Instagram Live

Dear Friends 

I am delighted to present Let's Take a Walk #65, a Participatory Performance at EnTransíto: In Spirit, We Are Elsewhere, a group exhibition taking place May 1st to May 4th in Ibiza Spain.

Together we'll explore themes of connection and transformation through storytelling, singing, shared experiences and walking. 

Your participation will help create a moment that transcends borders, a shared journey of understanding and peace.

Let's Take a Walk is an ongoing global participatory performance that embodies our collective quest for peace and transformation. Originating in 2009 as a Twitter-based initiative, it has evolved into an immersive on-site experience that invites participants worldwide to join via Instagram Live @Letstakeawalk_world. During each performance, participants engage in dialogue about peace and human rights, sing songs, and spread kindness. The knitted overskirt, created as we shared stories prior to the participatory walks and worn during the walk, unravels as a symbolic trace of the journey. Performance artifacts are added to the ever-growing installation of Let’s Take a Walk. 

Concept Highlights: 

Collective Storytelling: Participants share narratives about their ancestors through storytelling and knitting sessions, creating connections across diverse histories. 

Walking Performance: The walk occurs around significant locations emphasizing global interconnectedness. 

Call-and-Response Engagement: Interactive musical elements like "Dona Nobis Pacem" foster shared expression and unity. 

Global Participation: Virtual components allow individuals from Hamburg, Ibiza, Adelaide, and beyond to engage in real-time. 

 

EnTransíto: In Spirit, We Are Elsewhere.

EnTransíto is an artistic and philosophical exploration of spirituality, longing, and transformation. This event brings together artists and curators from Hamburg and Ibiza to reflect on transitions, cultural encounters, and the yearning for "elsewhere." Held at the Church of Sant Antoni de Portmany in Ibiza from April 27, 2024, to May 5, 2025, with its exhibition opening on May 1, 2025, the project incorporates themes inspired by philosopher Walter Benjamin. His concepts of "aura" and "now-time" serve as a foundation for the works displayed, which delve into the interplay between memory and new beginnings. The venue's sacred architecture enhances the experience by blending earthly and transcendent elements. The exhibition invites participants to question their connection to art, space, time, and spirituality while fostering a sense of discovery between physical or metaphorical spaces. A smaller-format exhibition will occur in Hamburg at Raum linksrechts gallery in October 2025 following this event.
