Shlepping & Displaying

The third part of "Let's take a walk...I need you" consisted of the displaying of the unravelled dresses. I walked along 14 street back and forth on the Saturday and the Monday following LTAW#28 & LTAW#29 carrying, dragging and at time hanging the dresses.  Here are some images.

October 14, Let’s take a walk #29 start at 11am, departing from Union Square south walking east along 14th Street.

Since October 9th along 14 St I invited the public to knit. Walking, knitting exchanging stories, unraveling…I used some of the element knitted during those strolls to create the dresses I’ll wear for Let’s take a walk #28 & 29th

October 13 & 15, throughout the day, I will display the remains of the costumes from the walks at various points on 14th Street.

This October 5-15, 2012, AiOP will pursue the theme MODEL over 100 participating artists—our largest festival yet! Converting Manhattan's 14th Street from Avenue C to the Hudson River into a two-mile runway, AiOP 2012: MODEL will present transformative ideas, wearable visions of positive change, and walking theories, while working to expand preconceived notions of public space and art.

   His grand mother is Burmese, her stories are always based on Buddhism .

LTAW #27 An experiment

LTAW #27 took place with a group of students and a teacher from a wonderful school in New York City.
As an experiment, the students were given a starting point. Group 1 Washington Square, Group 2 Father Demo Square, and group 3 (Bill and myself) at a triangular Park at the corner of 6th Ave and Spring Street called Juan Pablo Duarte Square
The walk took place at 10 am (EST) each group received the walking directions via Twitter.
In addition to the walk we then met back to the Students school and drew our journey, trying to recall the directions received, streets used and the songs we sung...

It was interesting to me to observe, that we recalled places in more specificity when connected with a thought, ie Think of someone you wish were with you... Also I am surprise to see that the journey we took had different "shape" I expected that we would all create a similar shapes yet in looking at the drawings it is clear that although we all walked the same steps the lines we created were very different.
The students have now images and video footage to use in a video editing project. I hope to be able to share those video with you very soon.

Let's take a Walk goes to school

LTAW #27 will take place May 4^th at 10am (eastern standard time) as part of a New York City high school art program.

I will be leading this walk alongside a group of high school students.

Using the phenomenon of Twitter, participants all over the world can join in a “group walk while filming their journey.

The various footage becomes a video installation showing the experience of our group walking in different places but moving synchronized through the same blueprints.

The Velada Santa Lucia was fantastic

What an fantastic experience in so many ways. People from Maracaibo as well as visitors and fellow artists have been so generous and willing to participate and help in my project Let's take a walk. It has been an inspiring week and feel privileged to be part of The Velada Santa Lucia 2012.
During the first few days I spent my time sitting by the side walk knitting and talking with passerby while teaching them to knit.

All the knitted part were used to make the elements of the Unraveling Dresses I wore during the performances.

The Performances took place on the 2nd and the 3rd of March at 7.30pm

The wonderful Town Crier Yarines Suarez and Sonia Stormes the fantastic musician/ drummer were calling on to people to join us for a walk, while Robert Chirinos the "Tweet Master" sent you the walking directions via Twitter

We had crowd and what a fantastic group of people...



As I walked the knitted dress unraveled, leaving traces of our journey...
